OPINION ON THE UNION GRAZIANO

PINK PARTY OR COALITION FOR CHANGE Challenging

coldness, and sometimes hostility, leaders of opposition parties, hundreds of white activists, and independent red have made their voices heard during the year ending in favor of the formation of an alternative political front, capable of challenging the Broad Front government of the country in the elections of 2014. The venue chosen to publicize this goal has been the virtual space of social networking, a sort of modern Athenian agora or public square in Rome that are spontaneously every day hundreds of thousands of people to learn, to express their views, reflect and form their own opinion on the facts that matter.

We are witnessing, then, the first expression of far-reaching policy emanating from this new medium of expression, the first to allow both learn and express themselves, the two most powerful innate tendencies of the human spirit. Uruguayan democracy can not ignore in the future, this tool, called to change drastically, in a move that many still can not even imagine, "the habits and customs policies deeply rooted in the country.

No need for expensive and cumbersome travel, regardless of the intermediation of traditional communication media, thousands of Uruguayans, sending messages to the network on the sidelines of their daily task in the midday lunch break from the solitude of the library or from fresh summer barbecue, have repeatedly urged during the year 2010 the formation of a united opposition front, which granted temporary vacation historical grudges between white and colored, to restore the country the full enjoyment of civil liberties, rule of law, separation of powers and departmental autonomy.

Reactions have been swift. Since the ruling, for example, has outlined a mocking criticism of the idea, which was quickly nicknamed the derogatory expression "party pink." In doing so, these critics have forgotten that the "pink party" (the result of the union of white and red) already exists in the country since 1971, and responds by the stage name of Frente Amplio. So successful was the venture, which in the course of 40 years has become the most powerful electoral machine in the history of Uruguay, which have acceded cheerfully disreputable business, happy international financial institutions, owners of media fatten their bank accounts are with the generous advertising, recalcitrant debtors public financial system, and an extensive list of beneficiaries of grants, contracts, fellowships, internships, grants, dispensations and "social assistance", financed by a drastic increase in the tax burden.

The reaction has also been adversely the current party leadership. The proposal emanating from them is to intensify the strife in order to crush all opponents to be presented in its way, then ask for their support in pursuit of electoral victory. So absurd is the strategy, and as expected the result, which their advocates have only between the ruling elites, with little support walls.

Promoters of the coalition for change act in inorganic form and at times chaotic, following the model imposed by the network itself. Some people already have their own website (www.concertacionciudadana.org), others travel the country like East Movement on foot, others, finally, are enthusiastic about the idea from their personal blogs or facebook sites. Everyone seems to unite the common purpose of giving life to a political expression under conditions capable of dealing with more partners than previous ruling officialdom.

The task does not look easy. Electoral architecture, defended tooth and nail by the political leadership does not allow portend a successful life to form a new party slogan or competing in the electoral market in 2014. The weight of existing structures would ultimately stifle any attempt in that direction, which would have no other result than to increase the atmosphere of failure and boredom that is installed in some sectors of society.

The only way left open is the form in each of the internal current opposition parties have the objective, clearly and explicitly, to agree with other political parties face a common proposal to the 2014 elections. If these currents succeed each theme, the possibility of political change in the country could arise on the horizon. The challenge is who should take today are defending the idea, and this renewal of leadership will be the first visible effect of social networks in the Uruguayan democracy. "

Up Pascale here what you think. The question is: What would this pose the performance space for independent, we are not Frente but neither white nor red, although supporters of the union? All we would expect them to put the agreement to incorporate. To this should be created a space for us.
